| April 17, 2008 Things are heating up. PTI has established relations with the ILWU and the Port Truckers in promoting the shut down of America's largest ports in the joined causes of fair fuel costs, an end to the war in Iraq, and the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. They all add up to one basic problem - corruption in our federal government. PTI has gladly taken the back seat in helping the port truckers protest the rocketing cost of diesel fuel, and the ILWU's action to stop the war and bring the troops home. We have been distributing the groups' flyers across the country and will notify our pledges that they should honor their pledge to strike by participating in this action even though it is not the Pledge to Impeach stay home strike. The reason we feel justified in this is that this action has the very real potential of uniting varied groups who share the common cause of defending and enforcing our constitution. We look forward to the day when groups seeking fair and free elections, affordable health care, global warming, etc, come to the realization that we will not succeed in these causes until we unite in the cause to rid our leadership of those who are building a future that excludes everyone's but the most rich and powerful. By their agenda, the American republic will become a temporary set back in the quest for domination of all mankind. The Romans succeeded then failed. The British succeeded then failed. This time they do not intend to fail. But we can stop them - together. Please help organize your local peace group, democratic/republican club, impeachment group, urge that they take up the cause and request the flyer for May 1 at admin@pledgetoimpeach.org. March 28, 2008 PTI has made contact with three Locals of the ILWU and is getting a better picture of the situation. While 90% of the recent caucus voted for a 24 hour shut down of the ports, leadership has since been whittled it down to an 8 hour "stop work meeting." Regardless, PTI is working to contact as many of the rank-and-file delegates and supportive leadership so we may fuse a strong link between our many activist organizations and unions. We also are attempting to initiate a relationship with the independent Owner Operators Union, who are ready to strike lest they go broke, due to NAFTA and other anti-American worker policies coming out of Washington. To date two small impeachment groups have signed on to the proposal we will deliver to the ILWU and are spreading the word. Still, several of the larger impeachment and peace groups have yet to embrace the action and its constructive possibilities. Why they hesitate is a mystery. Perhaps a few calls and emails will prompt them to act. March 16, 2008 Long time between updates. And for good reason. Adjustments to strategy take time to think out. As the time runs out to effectively prosecute George Bush and Dick Cheney while in office, it has been necessary for PTI to respond to the changing prospects for victory and how we can keep that victory within the realm of possibility. We have found that adjustment. As you must have seen on the homepage, PTI is working to collaborate with those who see and understand that these times call for more than simply demonstrating our dissatisfaction with the policies of this administration, that we must take decisive action to stop it. A few thoughts on the strategy of a "stay home strike". The champion of non-violent protest is of course Ghandi. The miracle of wisdom that he brought to an oppressed people will live for as long as history continues to be written. But even this movement was not non-violent. In fact it was very violent. Thousands were killed, more beaten, imprisoned. Even though Ghandi followers were not perpetrators of violence many were its victims. We believe that our "stay home strike" takes non-violence one step further. By remaining in our homes, we not only absolve ourselves from any of the legal ramifications of civil disobedience, we also maximize the impact on the economy by stopping all work and commerce, and we do it while keeping our people safe from any violence against them. Those who insist that public demonstrations during the strike would be more effective should realize that attending demonstrations actually spurs the economy with purchases of gas, sign materials, and food, while exposing our people to violence. PTI asks that you contact and urge other groups, including UFPJ, AfterDowningStreet.com, Democrats.com, ANSWER, and any other impeachment or peace groups you know of, to work with PTI and Labor, to get this job done. December 21, 2007 Strategy Adjustment. Since the leadership of the larger impeachment groups have refused to allow the PTI plan for organizing a national strike to be heard at their demonstrations, it has become necessary to find other means to get the message to our people that cannot be stifled from the podium of the many demonstrations that will take place in the next year. The new tactic is to enlist everyone attending these events to carry the same sign - "Impeach or We Strike!" We ask that all PTI activists carry the sign and spread the word to those who wish to join them. We believe that this visible statement will attract people to our cause. Please participate in this message of solidarity and spread the word. September 25, 2007 After returning from the first leg of the PTI National Enlistment Tour, there has been a lot to do to simply organize the new support gained from the trip. Organizers are now working in Knoxville, TN, Raleigh-Durham, NC, Worchester, MA, Billings and Missoula, MT, and Southern Vermont. One of the most promising developments is happening in Knoxville, where a single organizer, Kathy, has found a diner owner who has asked that a PTI poster be placed in his window for people to come inside and learn about the Pledge to Strike over a cup of coffee. Already people are being sent to his diner to learn more about the movement and to support a like-minded citizen's enterprise. If this community based method of bringing people together in the cause of opposing the Bush/Cheney agenda can be duplicated in other towns, we will have the beginnings of a national news story. Once we make national news, the effect it will have on our fellow Americans will give us an opportunity to organize them in time to get Bush/Cheney before they exit office. Time is running short, as the leadership of the impeachment and anti-war movements continue to reject our entreaties to adopt the national strike strategy. If the United Auto Workers strike can bring General Motors in line in just two days, think what we can do in three. August 30, 2007 Many developments following the Eastern Tour, including strategy, additional participation, and the emergence of the words "national strike" and "organizing" into the daily discourse. If we are going to succeed in impeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney the next few months will be pivotal. A new strategy to be initiated next week will be calling on union workers to meet with leadership to ask for endorsement of the Plan for Victory. Despite the ban on unions participating in wildcat strikes, it is still possible for them to endorse an act of civic duty that is not aimed at any single employer. To lead the way, PTI Spokesman, Anthony St. Martin will meet with leadership of one of three unions to which he is a member - the Screen Actors Guild - and request their endorsement of a national strike to force Congress to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney. If refused, Mr. St. Martin plans to place a print ad in Variety Magazine and Hollywood Reporter, urging all members of SAG to inform leadership of their support for the strategy and pressure them to endorse the strike. This call to action will of course go to every SAG member, from the newest extra to every A-list film and television star. If you are a member of a union, go to the next meeting and urge that the strength of solidarity be brought to bear on this most critical political situation by endorsing the "stay home" strike included in the PTI Plan for Victory. And keep us posted. August 20, 2007 The first stop on the West Coast leg of the National Enlistment Tour will be at the Veterans Memorial Bldg. in Santa Barbara, CA. At this event, PTI spokesman, St. Martin will describe the tailing-off of support in the public for impeachment. Despite the many impeachment actions going on around the country, the "poisoning of the well" by the news media, Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers, and virtually every Member of Congress who has refused to act in defiance of a rogue executive branch, have succeeded in turning many opponents of the Bush administration against impeachment. Others have been effectively distracted by HRes 333, and dropped any case against President Bush, while now chasing VP Dick Cheney. Therefore, it is strategically vital for PTI to keep ahead of the "essential political machine" by broadening its scope from simply organizing to impeach Bush, to a course for regaining the People's place in governance and reestablishing the balance of power on Capitol Hill. It is PTI's belief that we can win back those citizens who have lost faith in the ability to impeach Bush by offering the prospect of organizing an active electorate and represented work force in solidarity against the Bush agenda and any other administration that seeks to overwhelm our place in self-governance. See text of SPEECH to be delivered in Santa Barbara. (to be posted) "When the workers lost representation in the workplace, we also lost representation in government." PTI Spokesman, St. Martin August 11, 2007 Completion of first leg of PTI National Enlistment Tour, which ranged from several New England states, to New York City, and Philadelphia, to North Carolina, and D.C., with a last stop in Missoula, MT. The tour will now focus on the West Coast, from Seattle to Phoenix. The PTI campaign for National Solidarity is definitely taking off with strategic alliances now forming with impeachment groups in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont, North Carolina, Washington D.C., Maryland, New York, and Montana. In addition, the organizers of the preempted truckers rally, scheduled for June, 2007, have joined the campaign and will work through their network to add several hundred, perhaps thousands of truckers across the country, who are vociferously opposed to the prospects of the North American Union. A consistent trickle of pledges is now coming in from those states as activists are working on getting the word out. While in D.C., PTI spokesman, Anthony St. Martin went to Sen. Barbara Boxer's office to ask for assistance in obtaining written guidelines from the Secretaries of State, Treasury, and Defense, detailing what he, as an impeachment activists, can or cannot do under the Executive Order of July 17th. The point was to get assurance from the Bush administration that the order would maintain a respect for his rights to dissent. After plowing through many attempts to put him off, St. Martin received a reply from Boxer's attorney, via a legislative aide, stating that while Congress may "comment" on an order, they "cannot do anything to oppose an executive order." Shocked at this claim, St. Martin pointed out two times that Congress has halted or altered an executive order it considered inappropriate - Wilson's nationalizing the steel industry, and Clinton's allowing homosexuals in the military. The aide returned to the attorney and returned with the concession that Congress can do something, but that it would entail "changing the entire mission of the order." It was clear this office was not willing to even consider doing such a thing toward the administration Boxer called the closest thing to a dictatorship America has seen. It appears her office is trying to see to it that the threat of dictatorship becomes reality. Needless to say, there was no help coming from Boxer's office concerning the guidelines from the executive branch. Also while in D.C. Mr. St. Martin was taken on as a personal advisor to Presidential Candidate, Sen. Mike Gravel and has been credited by the Senator himself for adjusting his presentational style at debates from bombastic to a more confident and statesmanly role indicative of a viable candidate for the Presidency. July 29, 2007 The Pledge to Impeach Plan for Victory is gaining support at every turn. Finally, spokesman Anthony St. Martin, after being excluded from speaking at impeachment events for nearly two years, is now being pursued to present The Plan at several events across the country. Mr. St. Martin has been asked to join Dr. Bob Bowman's "Patriot Tour" and activists in North Carolina are organizing a state-wide tour for the PTI campaign in October. Obviously, people are ready to take non-violent action. The New Jersey Impeach Group has strongly endorsed the Plan and is working to include a presentation at their event on August 25th. July 20, 2007 PTI has given a second interview to INN World Report to be aired today, Friday July 20 at 6:30pm EST. Discussed are the Enlistment Tour and the campaign's insistence that the half-trillion dollar investment in occupying the Middle East will not be reversed by simply "asking them to". July 18, 2007 PTI campaign finds enormous public support while continuing to struggle for any support within the impeachment movement leadership. In Philadelphia, PA, PTI spokesman, Anthony St. Martin presented the Plan for Victory to the organizing meeting for the July 26th Cindy Sheehan event. The response was overwhelmingly supportive, with several outbreaks of applause as the plan unfolded before their eyes. Then, as has happened consistently with California groups, the man holding the gavel denied all requests that Mr. St. Martin get time to present the strategy at the event. Even a request that he speak after Sheehan and Yearwood have completed their presentations was flatly denied at the determination of a single person. So much for democracy within the democratic ranks. July 16, 2007 So far the PTI Tour is getting very good media coverage. Allentown local TV news and Sunday front page Local section, as well as several radio stations and INN World Report to come. As hoped, this has already helped the local organizers gain greater visibility in their area. Hope we can do the same at every stop. We are finding a great many people ready to take action to get impeachment done and to restore our democracy. My message continues to be one of preserving our freedom, our Constitution, and restoring fairness in the workplace through solidarity and non-violent action. Though our culture has become one of fascination with individual personalities and our people continue to look for that one person who will lead them to their goal, the challenge before us is not about the one, but the many. When the many become one we will have our democracy back. Though some continue to believe we will sway Congress with mere words and shouts of defiance, I believe that to end this maturing agenda for a future of "power over people" we must unify our people against it. That solidarity will come through a single unifying action - delivering an ultimatum to Congress; impeach or we strike. If our warning is doubted or ignored we will prove our unity with action. NOTE: It is vitally important for people to remember that this is a "stay home" strike. There must not be any public provocation or civil disobedience. The power of the strike will not be in crowded streets and mass demonstrations, but in the total defiance of empty streets. This is important to our people's safety and to the effectiveness of the action." Remember to SPREAD THE WORD. Preserving Freedom through Solidarity. July 12, 2007 Events are developing quickly, now. The bus tour events are coming together and the media is finding us. The Tour now has three radio stations around the nation, one a nationally syndicated show out of Worchester, with Brian Higgins, the others are local to Phoenix, with Jeff Farias, and one in Monterey, with Hal Ginsberg. Together with Lenny Charles of INN World Report, on Link TV, these hosts have all come on board to track the tour's progress and report it to their listerners/viewers. It is through this parlaying of exposure that we plan to reach those millions of American ready to strike to be rid of the greatest threat to our democracy. And it is in this way that we will channel that national will into an ultimatum Congress cannot refuse - impeach or we strike. July 12, 2007 The Pledge to Impeach "National Enlistment Bus Tour" will launch from Allentown, PA on July 14th at the Impeachnic/Anti-War Concert at the South Mountain Reservoir. Jim Goodnow's Yellow Rose of Peace Bus will arrive and join PTI Spokesman Anthony St. Martin at the first stop on their cross-country campaign to Sign Up America. From there they will set out to meet as many supportive Americans as possible in the effort to gather the immense opposition to the Bush Agenda into an effective ultimatum to be delivered to Congress at the end of the tour - impeach or we strike. Updates will be posted here on a regular basis. Keep checking in and look for the bus' arrival in your state. Send us an email if you have a group of folks wanting us to stop by on to The Road to Victory. April 24, 2007 Today a single Representative introduced the bill to impeach Bush/Cheney,Congressman Dennis Kucinich. The scene was much like the one anticipated by the PTI Plan for Victory, with the lone Member holding his bill up in his hand surrounded by the pledges of Americans in support. Except Kucinich did not have the pledges. In fact he has not even expressed any interest in the ongoing campaign. So, does he have a plan for getting the bill passed? We will be watching closely to see what he brings to the party. Though all other options remain available, the focus is now on HR 333 and getting it passed through the House. The delivery of our petition for impeachment on May 1 is no longer necessary with the introduction of a bill toward the same end. April 18, 2007 As more impeachment groups continue to join us in delivering a multitude of petition signatures to Capitol Hill, it may be advantageous to extend the sign-up time beyond May 1st, before taking the fight to Congress. With 20,000 signatures coming from Washington State, 14,000 more from Berkeley, thousands of Memorials coming from Minnesota, AfterDowningStreet.org with over 100,000 thousand between ADS and Democrats.com, and several other groups getting approval from their governing bodies to release their signatures to us, the action appears to hold greater potential if we give it more time. The question is when to cut off the sign-up and make tracks to DC. We are still searching for the Ramsey Clark, ImpeachBush.org signatures, but may be close to getting those 800,000+ signatures to help convince Rep. John Conyers that impeachment IS coming from the people, as he recently stated it must. As a kind of journalistic report, it should be stated here that Rep. Watson's Chief of Staff, Jim Clarke, has reneged on his assurance that if we brought his office 6,500 signatures the Congresswoman would be compelled to represent her constituents' petition for impeachment, now saying he does not remember saying such a thing, though I still have the email to remind him. He now states that Rep. Watson considers impeachment a distraction from the local issues such as health care and local crime rates, and would have no intention of presenting such a petition. This despite being reminded that it is the Representative's first obligation to represent the will of the people. Mr. Clarke also withdrew his assurance that Rep. Conyers would also feel obligated to represent such a petition, and stated that the Chairman of the House Judiciary had said that impeachment must come from the people. From what we have learned, Rep. Conyers received the more than 700,000 signatures from the Ramsey Clark petition, ImpeachBush.org but rather than take them to the floor of Congress for consideration he walked them to the White House where he was locked out and, as far as we know, never did anything more with them. Clearly, the con jobs are plentiful, and our democracy is broken. It is up to the American people to fix it. We have not contacted Rep. Danny Davis concerning his statement to PTI spokesman, Anthony St. Martin, describing his willingness to represent his constituents should they bring him a petition, but will shortly. March 27th, 2007 The PTI plan to bring our petition to Congress on May 1 just accomplished a major feat by getting a commitment to introduce a petition for impeachment from Illinois Congressman, Danny Davis (D) of the 7th District, Chicago. Representative Davis stated to PTI's Anthony St. Martin and independent reporter, Jay Marx, that though he currently defers to the leadership for direction on impeachment, he would honor his duty to represent his constituency if a well supported petition for impeachment came to him from his district. For the Pledge to Impeach Campaign this means an opportunity to have a Representative waiting to receive the petition on May 1. Rep. Diane Watson's chief of Staff, Jim Clarke, offered the figure of 1% of the district as the number of pledges needed. Efforts are now underway to find groups which have already collected thousands of signatures but done nothing with them - especially in the three districts. One very promising prospect is in Washington State where one group has 20K signatures on a petition for impeachment, 6k of which is believed to be in Rep. McDermott's district. Jim McDermott has been a strong supporter of impeachment. If he is willing to introduce the petition to Congress we will have the event that will allow us to draw millions of Americans to send in their pledges to strike if the petition is denied. ALSO: The campaign's visibility expanded significantly when St. Martin's presentation in Minneapolis (October) was replayed on INN World Report. Producer Lenny Charles received phone calls from people wanting to know where this person was and what was happening with his movement. Charles contacted St. Martin and an interview was taped in Washington with the help of videographer Kathleen Gabel and Jay Marx of Whynotnews.org. Marx will continue working as PTI's inside the beltway representative in meetings with Members to determine how many more Representatives are ready to represent a petition for impeachment. March 8, 2007 The time has come to take the fight to Washington. PTI has determined that it is time to take our "Citizen's Petition" for impeachment and redress for the injury suffered by the American people due to the actions of Bush/Cheney" to Congress. As of now, that day will be on or around May 1, 2007. Though it is certain that PTI does not have enough pledges to enforce an effective national strike, we believe that we have enough to stoke the fires of widespread support, and that that support will continue to grow as Americans witness our continued efforts to get this petition introduced and passed. PTI's volunteers will begin notifying media and press from around the world of the event, and members of Congress are being contacted for appointments to discuss the impending action and their willingness to participate by introducing the Petition. Between now and May 1, PTI volunteers will attend the March on the Pentagon to collect pledges, and PTI spokesman, Anthony St. Martin has been invited to attend the PDA Leadership Conference in D.C. the following weekend. At that meeting, Mr. St. Martin will stress that the impeachment train is at the station and its time to get on board. "No more games"! March 8, 2007 PTI is currently talking with Wearenotbuyingit.org about collaborating on strategy and actions. In order to make the most of WNBI's April 17-22 boycott and PTI's Petition to Congress, it is likely that the Petition will follow the boycott, on or about May 1, 2007. February 13, 2007 The list of Volunteers responding to our request for help placing ads in local newspapers continues to grow. It appears that the reality that the Bush agenda is not harassed in any way by our recent election results is convincing people, more and more, that we need a serious plan. I remain convinced that as the Bush Regime continues to act in violation of our laws and traditions the American public will find their way to our movement and we will collect the necessary support to deliver a credible threat of a national strike to the steps of Congress. Thanks to all who have volunteered, and to those about to. February 8, 2007 Last Saturday, February 3, we placed our first ads in several papers in the San Francisco East Bay Area, and will continue to introduce the Pledge To Impeach Campaign to reach everyday Americans through free and classified ads in local newspapers across the country. Anyone interested in doing something concrete to impeach and remove the Bush administration need only go to the navigation bar and click on "Volunteer". We will send you ad copy and information for contacting your local papers. January 4, 2007 PTI joins forces with Vermont campaign for State Resolution calling for impeachment. Pledge to Impeach will join forces with Vermont campaign working for town council resolutions and a State resolution calling for impeachment. PTI spokesman Anthony St. Martin discussed the collaboration with Vermont resident and impeachment spearhead, Dan DeWalt, and will go to Vermont in the coming weeks to gather pledges of support for the resolutions in the form of Pledges. "Dan's people will open the door with their resolution and we will supply the troops to force Congress to act in defense of our Constitution. We cannot allow another betrayal by our Congress without an effective response in place. When the stakes are this high, when the Bush doctrine of war without end is now spreading to Africa, we cannot allow failure. We must succeed." DECEMBER 16, 2006 THE IMPEACHMENT PICTURE FOLLOWING ELECTIONS. First a reminder that the Pledge to Impeach campaign has long insisted that simply electing Democrats to Congress would not end the war, nor bring articles of impeachment against George Bush. Thus, the need for a campaign like ours where Americans stand up for themselves and force the removal of this criminal administration. The fact is, rather than oppose the Bush policies, the developments since even before the elections have actually put George Bush in a safer, more protected position than he enjoyed before. He has an opposition party that has floated the possibility of a "draft", rubber stamped the appointment of Robert Gates, and sworn against impeachment hearings, thereby dissuaded millions of Americans from doing so. Well, we are not dissuaded. Pledges keep coming in every day and a burst of Pledges arrive every time Mr. St. Martin speaks publicly. The only real concern thus far is that, except for a few individuals, people are pledging but not spreading the word. Time is growing short and we need a pledge from every American who can see the writing on the wall. Please be sure to tell your friends, relatives, co-workers, about the campaign to stop Bush and ask them to check it out. KEEPING PLAN "B" ON DECK. We have contacted the offices of six of the thirty-two Representatives who have publicly stated their support for impeachment without a single response and will continue until all have been contacted. However, should not a single Representative be willing to take the lead in the campaign and introduce the bill to impeach, Plan B waits in the wings. PLAN B. We will utilize the Citizen Memorial as the means to get the petition before Congress. With the Democratic leadership not only capitulating but also pressuring other Members to abandon impeachment it may become necessary to shift Pledged support for a congressional bill to the Memorial. Everything else remains the same. The demand of any plan is that it be flexible and capable of overcoming short-term obstacles. Our plan has proven to hold these qualities over the last two years of its development. NOVEMBER 18, 2006 CAMPAIGN ADVANCES TO "STEP 2" - RIGHT ON SCHEDULE. Only two months after launching "Step One" of the Pledge to Impeach Campaign on September 8th, 2006, we have embarked on the next important phase of the strategy to force Congress to remove George W. Bush and Dick Cheney from office. Now that we have collected a sufficient number of "seed pledges" to assure us of the support of millions of Americans, spokesman Anthony St. Martin has begun to approach Members of the House to find who will introduce the bill calling for impeachment and spearhead what is certain to be one of the most dynamic confrontations in Congressional history. From Los Angeles, to Washington D.C., to Minneapolis, the passionate cry from the public has made it clear that our campaign is not merely providing what the American public wants, but what we all desperately need; relief from the insanity of the Bush Agenda. And it is time for our Representatives to feel the heat of that passion. The goal is to obtain a pledge from at least one Member of the House during the days between Thanksgiving and Christmas and be ready to introduce the bill by the opening of the new Congress. Further progress reports will appear on this website. "PLEDGE ONLINE" IS A HIT, AND A HIT, AND A HIT. After collecting hand-signed pledges at public rallies and street corners, the Pledge to Impeach Campaign has launched a website for taking pledges online. After just one week, we are getting from 25-30 pledges a day, from nearly every state across the nation. STAFFER JOINS THE CAMPAIGN. PTI is happy to welcome Ms. Julieanna Thompson and her seemingly endless energy to the cause. Ms. Thompson has begun calling offices of Representatives to sound them out on the issue of impeachment and set up discussions of their participation in the Pledge to Impeach Campaign.F |
